OnTheRecord.org is a project of the On The Record Institute, an independent and non-partisan 501(c)(3) tax-deductible not-for-profit investigative research watchdog. Our mission is to promote enlightened intellectual debate by creating a comprehensive database (always including cited evidence) that allows the truth to speak for itself, regardless of party or power.

As we monitor and expose misinformation, our goal is to tell the truth quickly, simply, and entertainingly, without allowing special interests to interfere. Our organization will not only alter the conversation, but change the world, by creating a new and modern level of transparency, integrity, and accountability.

We will always remain free and independent. We will never shill for any person, party, or organization, and for the sake of remaining non-partisan, we will not tell users what to do with the information provided. We will provide the facts, you do with it what you choose.

2) TRUTH & ACCURACY:

We strive to tell the whole truth with 100% accuracy at all times.

3) ACCOUNTABILITY:

The above notwithstanding, if we (or any of the sources we cite) ever get anything wrong, we will immediately issue a correction.

4) PROGRESS:

We believe in social progress and doing our part to move society forward in a manner that is sustainable and positive.

WHY SHOULD WE TRUST YOU?

You shouldn't trust any single source of news or information! We strongly encourage you to use a variety of trustworthy sources to obtain a better and more holistic understanding of any given person, issue, or organization. You can trust us to be one of those sources because:
- A) We are a diverse team of independent thinkers who care too much about our integrity and the world to become shills for any party, person, or organization. We will never be a mouthpiece for anything but exposing the truth.
- B) We are non-partisan, and we will not tell you what do with any of the information provided. That's always up to you!
- C) We carefully aggregate only trustworthy data, which we define as information that is both accurate and in good faith.
- D) We always cite our sources, and when possible, we strive to provide non-biased sources and to avoid biased sources.
- E) Most of our data is already publicly available on various platforms, so we always encourage you to double-check our facts, and if you find any issues, let us know!
- F) If / when a mistake is made, our editors will immediately correct it and issue a retraction. Furthermore, we will constantly challenge and improve all of our methodologies to ensure continued accuracy and integrity throughout our process.

WHAT IS YOUR PROCEDURE FOR DETERMINING WHICH INDIVIDUALS / ORGANIZATIONS TO COVER?

We will only cover those who are "significantly involved" in politics, which we define as any person or organization that fulfills any of the following requirements:
- A) Activities or responsibilities that are / were directly tied to politics or the media (e.g. any politician or media personality).
- B) Contributes vast sums of money, directly or indirectly, to politicians or political groups / causes.
- C) Politically active and has a large enough following that they can be considered an "influencer" on social issues.
- D) Directly connected to an individual or organization that fulfills one of the requirements above and there is a legitimate public interest in the individual / organization.
