Obama's Powerbroker

An interesting story
in the San Francisco Chonicle about Tony West, an advisor to Obama's campain. A look at the next generation of black political strategists. Clearly a guy who could play an interesting role helping to rebuild the Justice Department. West is a San Francisco Native and one of the four lawyers to represent Marin County native John Walker Lindh, the "American Taliban in 2002. Why would he take a case that he knew was going to hurt him politically if he ever ran for office." West says he was concerned about the human rights and due process that might have been denied to Lindh.

"When you think about the worst thing that terrorists can do to this country, it is that they can make you rethink your fundamental commitments to those principles that make our nation unique and make us great. I really believe that in working on that case, I was recommitting myself to those principles of due process, fairness - things that separate us from most nations in this world and which make us unique."

Floored By Obama

"We are choosing hope over fear..." - Obama

Barak Obama rolled over Hilary Clinton in the South Carolina Primary last night and delivered what might be one of the best political speeches I've ever heard. We watched it on YouTube after reading Caroline Kennedy's
OpEd in which she compared Obama to JFK. She pointed out that "Barack Obama made the right call on the most important issue of our time by opposing the war in Iraq from the beginning."

Thank you Caroline. Watch Obama's speech and tell me whether you think this man could become the next president of the United States. CNN is reporting that Obama got 55 of the vote, Hilary 27 percent. He's going into Super Tuesday with a strong organization, Oprah, and a lot of inspired people. “The choice in this election,” said Obama, “is not between religions or genders. It’s not about rich versus poor; young versus old, and it is not about black versus white. It’s about the past versus the future.”
